"It was a wonderful honor to receive a Justice John Paul Stevens Fellowship. With fellowship funding I was able to work at two different organizations that are taking on some of the most important environmental justice issues in the country. At the Southern Environmental Law Center I assisted with an ongoing legal effort to protect North Carolina's drinking water from coal ash pollution in the face of powerful business interests and agencies that have been reluctant to enforce federal and state environmental laws. At Communities for a Better Environment I helped in efforts to curb the urban oil field pollution that has disproportionately impacted low income communities of color.

This summer has been incredible. I was able to work on the issues that I am most passionate about, to work alongside inspiring lawyers, and to meet a number of community members organizing to clean up environmental hazards and call for a more just energy future. These experiences will help sustain me when I graduate and begin my career as a public interest lawyer."

"During the spring semester of my second year in law school, I was presented with a unique opportunity to intern at the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo.  I was initially hesitant to accept the internship because of the substantial costs associated with an international internship, but Professor Joseph Thai and the John Paul Stevens Fellowship proved indispensable in my pursuit of this opportunity as it significantly alleviated some of the financial burdens.

As part of my internship at the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo, I had to become familiar with the admissibility criteria of referrals (petitions) established by the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights (“ECHR”). At the Court, I worked closely under the guidance of the Legal Unit in filtering, researching, and drafting preliminary reports on admissibility and opinions on actual cases for the Constitutional Court.

Overall, the internship at the Constitutional Court was an extremely rewarding and worthwhile experience. Without the invaluable assistance of John Paul Stevens Foundation, I would have unfortunately missed out on this enriching, meaningful experience."
